When is the Best Time to Visit Oahu?
The best time to visit Oahu varies from person to person. What do you want to experience during your trip? Oahu generally enjoys a pleasant tropical climate throughout the year, but there are a few factors to consider when planning your visit. We’l run through them now.
What is the Weather Like on Oahu?

An important factor to your decision is examining Oahu’s weather. Honestly, you can’t go wrong no matter what time of year you visit, because the weather on Oahu is absolutely gorgeous year-round!
Even during the winter months (from mid-November to March) the high temperatures hover around 80°F (26°C), so you won’t even need a jacket! In the summertime, the highs typically reach the mid-to upper-80s F (30-32°C), perfect weather for taking a cool splash in the ocean.
Is There a Rainy Season on Oahu?
Yes, there is a rainy season on Oahu. The island experiences more rain during the winter, especially on the windward (east) side. The good news about the rainy season, though, is that the showers are usually scattered and short-lived. The sun quickly returns, keeping the island's landscape nice and lush—plus you might just witness a breathtaking rainbow! Plus, if the rain does stick around for a little bit, we’ve got you covered with our favorite rainy day activities on Oahu.
Winter is also prime whale-watching season, so if you visit then, you'll have an exciting opportunity to witness majestic humpback whales as they migrate through Oahu's waters.

Visiting Oahu in Late December to Early April
During the peak season, surfers flock to Oahu for its epic waves and prestigious surfing competitions like the Lexus Pipe Pro and Da Hui Backdoor Shootout. These thrilling winter events draw crowds and add to all the fun in Oahu. Winter season (and May) is also prime time for humpback whale watching, as we mentioned, and daytime temperatures hover comfortably in the low 80s.
Mid-April to Early June
As surf season winds down and summer approaches, Oahu experiences a dip in tourist numbers. The Honolulu attractions and surrounding areas become less crowded during this time, so if you want some peace and quiet, spring is a great time to visit Oahu.
For those visiting in April and May, you still may be able to catch some glimpses of humpback whales. Spring temperatures range from the high 60s to the high 80s. There’s less going on this time of year, so budget-conscious travelers will love the lower flight and accommodation prices!
Mid-June to August
As mid-June approaches, Oahu becomes a magnet for travelers. With temperatures ranging from the mid-70s to the high 80s and minimal rain showers, it's the perfect time for getting outside and exploring all our magnificent island has to offer.
However, the allure of Oahu's phenomenal summer weather comes with a price – accommodations and airlines often charge higher rates during this peak season. Remember to book your trip directly with Oceanfront Vacation Villas to get the best deal possible, and book ahead if you can!
September to Mid-December

Fall is definitely our favorite time to visit Oahu! With fewer crowds, popular spots like Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head State Monument feel a bit calmer. Oahu also comes alive in the fall with festivals celebrating local food, fashion, film, and Hawaiian traditions. It’s a great way to witness local Hawaiian culture!
As the season goes on, light rain showers become more common, so it’s smart to pack a rain jacket. November and December mark the start of big-wave season on the North Shore, when top surfers from around the world gather for the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.
